The body is that of a well developed, well nourished black male with jeans on, shredded and seared into flesh. No shirt, no shoes. Valuables consist of a partially melted leather wallet with a charred receipt inside from a gas station. There are burns over ninety-nine percent of the external structure. Teeth have been removed manually at roots. Multiple fractures to cranium.

DIAGNOSES

-Severe blunt force to the skull

* Fracture, frontal

* Fracture, parietal

* Fracture, zygomatic

* Fracture, nasal

* Fracture, mandible.

-All teeth removed manually at the root

-Partial avulsion and searing of muscle and soft tissue in head

-Partial avulsion and searing of muscle and soft tissue in trunk

-Partial avulsion and searing of muscle and soft tissue to all extremities

DISPOSITION OF CLOTHING AND PERSONAL EFFECTS

Melted wallet and charred receipt, received by Percy Linus of the Leon County Sheriff’s Department on May 12, 2008.

INTERNAL EXAMINATION

Cardiovascular System

Heart Weight 340 grams

Respiratory System

Lung Weight 930 grams combined

No soot present, consistent with observations of cause of death.

Gastrointestinal System

The appendix is present. The stomach is empty. The small intestine is unremarkable and the colon contains a minute amount of

green stool.

Liver

Liver Weight 1420 grams

Spleen

Spleen Weight 80 grams

Urinary

Kidney Weight 290 grams combined

Reproductive

Normal adult male with non-nodular prostate gland.

Endocrine

The thyroid gland is bilobed and non-nodular.

Both adrenal glands are grossly unremarkable.

Neurologic

Brain Weight 1345 grams

Skin

Multiple scalp lacerations and searing of entire body.

Immunologic System

The lymph nodes are grossly unremarkable.

Musculoskeletal System

Cranial vault fractured.

SUMMARY AND INTERPRETATION

The decedent was a 26-year-old black man who was beaten in the head and received extensive third degree burns postmortem. Due to the violent nature of death, Dr. Tom Reynolds, Leon County Medical Examiner, assumed jurisdiction of the body and authorized autopsy.
